The Spanish national team returns to the 'ring' after being crowned champion of the Euro 2024 in Paris to face the Serbian (Thursday, September 5) and Swiss (Sunday, September 8) teams in two matches corresponding to the Nations League. For this reason, Luis de la Fuente announced the list of those called up for both matches this Friday, August 30, with several new features in it.

The Spanish coach's call-up is once again made up of the base of footballers who won the European title in Berlin just over a month ago. However, there will be notable absences, such as Jesús Navas, who announced his retirement from international football, or Álvaro Morata, who along with Rodri Hernández, will have to serve a one-match suspension for chanting 'Gibraltar is Spanish' during the celebrations in Madrid for the continental triumph, although the captain is also injured.

In the Blaugrana key, FC Barcelona once again has an important presence in the Spanish squad. In addition to the already customary presences of Lamine Yamal, Ferran Torres and Pedri González, there is also the absence of Dani Olmo, who joined Hansi Flick's squad in this transfer market. The absences of Pau Cubarsí and Fermín López are striking, although both can be justified by the participation of the two youngsters in the Olympic Games, which is why the Spanish coach had decided to give them a rest.

De la Fuente's big surprises

De la Fuente included big changes in his call-up, such as Óscar Mingueza, a former Barça player who had a great start to the season at Celta, who will take Navas' place at right-back. Pau Torres and Yeremy Pino are once again called up by La Roja, while Robert Sánchez replaces Unai Simón, the starting goalkeeper for the national team and Athletic Club, who will be out due to a wrist injury.
