Kylian Mbappé has equalled Lewandowski as the top two scorers in La Liga. However, 3 of the Frenchman's 4 goals came from the penalty spot, while the Pole has only scored one goal from the eleven meters

Calendar of FC Barcelona

Kylian Mbappé seems to have 'shaken off' the bad streak of the first three rounds of LaLiga EA Sports 2024/25 and is beginning to show his goalscoring side in his new adventure at Real Madrid. The French striker scored again this Saturday against Espanyol and adds his third consecutive date scoring in the Spanish championship, although this mark has a peculiarity that only a merengue footballer could register.

The 'crack' from Bondy has accumulated four goals in the local competition, equalling Robert Lewandowski as the top scorers in the tournament. However, the numbers of the Madrid '9' have an asteric, and that is that of the four goals that the footballer has celebrated in LaLiga, three have come from eleven meters. Penalties that, among other things, have been called after some dubious, and coincidentally convenient, decision by the referees.

Real Betis was the first 'victim' of an Mbappé who, later, would take advantage of a 'favor' from Martínez Munuera, who sanctioned a penalty after a non-existent 'stomp' on Vini Jr., against Real Sociedad to get closer to the FC Barcelona striker's scoring quota. Finally, this Saturday he managed to equalize the Pole 'thanks' to Munuera Montero, who 'gave' another penalty to Madrid after a clear grab outside the area on Endrick in the last minutes of the duel against Espanyol.

With this last goal from the twelve steps, Kylian became the second Real Madrid player to score a penalty in three consecutive LaLiga games in the 21st century, with a total of three goals, reaching Karim Benzema, who achieved the same feat between March and April 2022. A mark that shows who the refereeing decisions have historically favored.

Lewandowski remains firmly in the lead

On the other hand, of the four goals scored by Lewandowski in the local championship, only one has been celebrated from the eleven meters, the one that gave the team led by Hansi Flick the comeback against Valencia in the first match of the League. In that same match, the Pole equalized the actions after an assist from Lamine Yamal, and later he would score two more goals against Athletic Club and Valladolid.

For now, he has only been left without scoring in the matches against Rayo Vallecano and Girona. This coming Sunday he will have the opportunity to separate himself from Mbappé in the visit of Barça to the Estadio de la Cerámica to face Villarreal.
