If Real Madrid does not win today against Atalanta, they will fall into the knockout zone of the Champions League with two matchdays remaining
The Real Madrid has run out of margin for error in their 'favorite' competition, the UEFA Champions League. The merengues have suffered two consecutive humiliating defeats in Europe, falling to 24th place in the standings, right on the edge of the knockout zone of the continental competition.
This Tuesday, against Atalanta, Madrid needs to win to keep their options intact and avoid panic. But it won't be easy; the Italian team just thrashed Young Boys away (1-6), occupies the fifth position in the table with 11 points, and is one of the three unbeaten teams in the competition. The only downside is that they have not won or scored any goals at home, where they drew 0-0 against Arsenal and Celtic.
Madrid has already lost three matches
The situation is critical in Chamartín, where a team without football and without spirit is having a disappointing season. Ancelotti's side has only accumulated 6 points, with three defeats in five matches. The reigning champion received a harsh blow against Liverpool, losing 2-0 in their visit to Anfield Road during matchday 5 of the Champions League.
In the previous match, the merengues were also defeated by Milan 1-3 at the Bernabéu, where just before they had secured a victory against Dortmund 5-2. On matchday 2, Ancelotti's team unexpectedly lost to Lille 1-0, and in the opening match, they won at home against Stuttgart 3-1.
