FC Barcelona's thrashing of Bayern Munich will be remembered not only by Barcelona fans, but by football in general. The Catalans gave a statement of authority against their European 'black beast' and gave a warning to the rest of the clubs, who now know that the Catalans are the team to beat.
Hansi Flick's team put on a real show, a display of superiority against one of the great candidates for the title who was completely 'overwhelmed' by the power of the Blaugrana. A 'hurricane' who knew how to capitalise on their opportunities in front of goal, scoring four goals against a Munich side who are not used to conceding so many goals.
Bayern suffered their first big thrashing since 2017
In fact, Barça only became the fourth team to score four goals against the Bavarians in the Champions League over the last 15 years. The last time the Germans conceded four goals is in 2017, when Zinedine Zidane's Real Madrid beat them 4-2 in the second leg of the quarter-finals of that edition of the continental tournament.
Previously, the same Merengues also scored four goals in the second leg of the 2014 Champions League semi-finals (1-4), and much further back, in 2009, Pep Guardiola's Barça beat them 4-0 in the first leg of the quarter-finals of that season. In addition, the Teutons had not lost by three goals since the first leg of the quarter-finals against Manchester City in 2022/23 (3-0).
