Barça is playing for more than just glory in the Champions League: a millionaire prize is within reach after their match against Borussia Dortmund
FC Barcelona hopes to finalize their passage to the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League 2024-25 soon. Hansi Flick's team will face Borussia Dortmund at Signal Iduna Park, with the clear objective of sealing a tie that they already left well on track in the first leg, thanks to a resounding 4-0 victory at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys. In that match, Robert Lewandowski shone with a double, complemented by goals from Raphinha and Lamine Yamal.
Now, Barça not only travels with the mission of securing their passage to the 'semis' and continuing to dream of a 2024-25 season with historic overtones and aspirations for a treble. They also do so with an eye on the economic benefits that overcoming this round in the Champions League would represent.
15 million euros for advancing to the Champions League semifinals
If the passage to the 'semis' is consummated, FC Barcelona will receive an additional 15 M€ from UEFA. A not insignificant amount for a club that had prepared its season budget with the forecast of reaching the quarterfinals, so everything that comes from now on represents net gains.
This extra income represents a relief and an important boost for the club's coffers, in a context where every euro counts to clean up its accounts and continue building a competitive project.
The money accumulated by FC Barcelona in this Champions League
So far, FC Barcelona has already added significant income thanks to its performance in this edition of the UEFA Champions League. The detail of the amounts received is as follows:
- Participation in the group stage: 18.6 M€
- Results in the group stage: 13.3 M€ | 12.6 M€ for six victories (2.1 M€ each) and 700,000 € for a draw
- Qualification for the round of 16: 13 M€ (11 M€ for qualifying + 2 M€ for doing it directly)
- Qualification for the quarterfinals: 12.5 M€
- UEFA 'Shares' (according to historical position): 10.4 M€
- Market pool (sponsorships and TV): 22.44 M€ (may vary)
- UEFA 10-year historical coefficient: 11.41 M€
- Total accumulated so far: 101.6 M€
- Possible total with passage to the semifinals: 116.6 M€
And if it keeps advancing... more millions at stake
If it continues to advance in the competition, FC Barcelona could add even more income:
- 18.5 M€ if it finishes as runner-up
- 25 M€ if it is crowned champion
- 4 M€ additional for qualifying for the European Super Cup
A very important amount for a club that in recent years has gone through various financial challenges. In addition to the sporting glory of staying alive in the Champions League, the economic prize becomes an additional motivation for the 'culés'.
