FC Barcelona and Inter Milan will replay the Champions League semi-final from 2009-10. Discover the history and key dates of the historic clash between 'culés' and 'nerazzurris'
Everything is set in the final draw of the UEFA Champions League 2024-25. FC Barcelona will face Inter Milan, a rival against whom they have a favorable record in 12 previous encounters. So far, the balance is 6 wins, 4 draws and 2 losses for Barça, with 17 goals for and 10 against. This year, the clash promises to be spectacular between two very different styles.
Barça boasts a vertical and ultra-offensive football that has allowed them to have the best attack in the tournament (37 goals in 12 matches). Inter, on the other hand, is a very organized team that takes advantage of counter-attacks and set-piece plays, with defense being its main attribute.
Simone Inzaghi's team boasts the least scored-against goal in the Champions League, with just 5 goals conceded, 12 less than the 'azulgrana' team. Despite this, Bayern Munich managed to score 2 goals in the return leg at the Giuseppe Meazza, in a match where the Bavarians were very close to forcing extra time (2-2).

✅Barça and Inter already faced each other in 2018, 2019 and 2022
The recent history between both teams has been quite even. Inter got the best of Barça in their double clash in the group stage of 2022-23. In Italy, the locals won by the narrowest of margins (1-0) thanks to a goal from Hakan Çalhanoglu and several controversial decisions detrimental to the 'culés'.
In the return leg at Camp Nou, the match ended in a draw (3-3), a draw that practically eliminated Xavi Hernández's team, for the second consecutive year, in the initial phase. Bayern Munich was the group leader, while Barça finished third. Inter, on the other hand, was runner-up against Manchester City (0-1).
Both teams had faced each other in 2019-20, with 'azulgrana' victories by the same score (2-1) in Barcelona and Milan. The 'culés' led the group ahead of Borussia Dortmund, while the Italians had to settle for the Europa League, a tournament in which they would reach the final (they fell against Sevilla, 3-2).
In 2018-19, Ernesto Valderde's team also left the 'nerazzurris' behind in the group stage. At Camp Nou, the Catalans won 2-0, while in Italy there was a draw (1-1). Tottenham passed as Barça's escort, while Inter went down to the UEL.
📌Barça is going for revenge for the 2010 'semis' against Inter
However, the most remembered clash between Barça and Inter, without a doubt, was the 'semis' of 2009-10. Barça was looking for their second Champions League in a row and to lift the trophy at the Santiago Bernabéu, but José Mourinho's Inter crossed their path.
In the first leg in Milan, the Italians took advantage of the controversial refereeing of the Portuguese Olegario Benquerença, who validated a goal by Diego Milito in a clear offside and overlooked two penalties on Piqué and Dani Alves, to take a 3-1 lead. Pedro had put Barça ahead, but Sneijder, Maicon and Milito turned the score around in the second half.
In the return leg at Camp Nou, Barça won by the narrowest of margins thanks to a great goal from Piqué, but it was not enough to come back. At the end there was a goal disallowed to Bojan Krkic for a previous hand by 'Geri' that was never verified.
That same season, both teams had faced each other in the group stage. Guardiola's team won in Barcelona (2-0), while in Italy the match ended 0-0 in the debut of both teams in the tournament.
