Eric García lasted just 10 minutes on the pitch in his debut as a starter this season. The centre-back was sent off in the Champions League match against Monaco when he tried to make amends for a mistake by Ter Stegen
FC Barcelona's debut in the new edition of the UEFA Champions League had a very 'uphill' start. The Blaugrana, who took to the field with a new starting eleven after including Eric García to replace Dani Olmo, were left with 10 after the Catalan centre-back, who was making his debut as a starter this season, was sent off the pitch, 'victim' of a huge mistake by Marc-André Ter Stegen.
The German goalkeeper tried to get the team out from the back, but AS Monaco's high pressure left the captain with no possible receivers. Eric García managed to get free, but a bad pass from 'MATS' ended up at the feet of Takumi Minamino, who entered the area completely alone. In his attempt to rectify the goalkeeper's error and prevent the Barça goal from falling, the '24' brought down the Japanese midfielder in the crescent, an action that was 'punished' with a red card by the main referee, Allard Lindhout, leaving Barça with one less player with 80 minutes of play ahead.
