FC Barcelona finished the UEFA Champions League group stage as the undisputed scoring leader. Hansi Flick's team scored 28 goals in 8 matchdays, averaging 3.5 goals per game.
The UEFA Champions League concluded this Wednesday with FC Barcelona as the tournament's top scorer. The Catalans scored 28 goals in the eight matchdays of the group stage, achieving an incredible average of 3.5 goals per game. Additionally, the azulgrana team boasts having the two top scorers of the tournament. Robert Lewandowski, with 9 goals, remains the top scorer, followed by Raphinha (8).
In total, nine players from Barça scored in the first phase. Besides 'Lewy' and Rafa, Lamine Yamal, Ferran Torres, and Iñigo Martínez each scored a couple of goals, while Eric García, Fermín López, Dani Olmo, and Ronald Araujo contributed to the azulgrana's tally with 1 goal each. The Catalans finished second with 19 points, resulting from six victories, one draw, and only one defeat.
For Barça, the draw against Atalanta (2-2) ended a streak of six consecutive victories in the tournament. However, what the team did achieve was to extend their streak of matches scoring at least one goal. Across La Liga, Champions, Copa del Rey, and Supercopa de España, the Catalans have only failed to score a couple of times (against Real Sociedad and Leganés) in 33 appearances where Barcelona has accumulated 103 goals in favor.
Dortmund, the only team able to approach Barça's scoring average
In the Champions League, the only club that comes close to Barcelona's scoring average in the group stage is Borussia Dortmund. The Germans scored 22 goals in 8 matchdays, 7 less than the Catalans, but a couple more than Atlético de Madrid, Atalanta, Bayern Munich, and Real Madrid (all registering 20 goals). Interestingly, Liverpool, the leader of the first phase, does not appear among the tournament's top scorers.
The 'reds' secured first place with 21 points, resulting from seven victories and only 1 defeat. However, they only scored 17 goals (2.1 per match). Barça also finished the group stage with the best goal difference (+15), with one more goal than Atalanta (+14), but the Italians will have to play the 'play-off' for finishing in ninth place. Arsenal (+13) and Liverpool (+12) also finished the group stage with a considerable goal difference.
