Barça return to the Champions League on Tuesday against Young Boys at Montjuïc. Hansi Flick will be looking for his first European victory with his best players
Barcelona FC will host Young Boys at the Estadi Olimpic Lluís Companys on Tuesday in Matchday 2 of the 2024/25 Champions League. Hansi Flick's men will be looking to put the 'stumble' suffered in Monaco (2-1) in the first matchday behind them and get their first win in the new format of the European competition.
Hansi Flick's team will come into the match with the motivation to turn around their poor start and take the first three points of this year's continental tournament. Under these circumstances, and after resting several regular starters in the League, it is expected that the German coach will not make any rotations. Below, we show you the possible starting lineups for Barcelona and Young Boys:
Possible lineups for the Barcelona vs Young Boys match
- FC Barcelona's starting XI: Iñaki Peña, Koundé, Pau Cubarsí, Íñigo Martínez, Balde; Casadó, Raphinha, Pedri; Lamine Yamal, Ferran Torres y Lewandowski.
- FC Barcelona bench: Astralaga, Pablo Torre, Ansu Fati, Pau Víctor, Héctor Fort, Gerard Martín, S. Domínguez, Cuenca, Yaakobishvili, Guillermo, Toni Fernández.
- FC Barcelona injured players: Christensen, Fermín López, Gavi, Ronald Araújo, Frenkie de Jong, Marc Bernal, Ter Stegen, Dani Olmo.
- FC Barcelona players suspended: Eric García.
- Young Boys' starting XI: Von Ballmoos; Athekame, Camara, Zoukrou, Hadjam; Colley, Lauper, Niasse, Monteiro; Ugrinic y Ganvoula.
Despite the fact that the two teams have never faced each other, Barça are favourites due to the home advantage, the difference in squads and the terrible start to the season by the Swiss, who lost in a resounding way at home to Aston Villa (0-3) in their Champions League debut.
For their part, the Catalans come into the match with eight injured players. Below, we review all the positions in Barcelona's possible starting XI against Young Boys.
Goal: Iñaki Peña
The young goalkeeper was one of the victims of the thrashing at El Sadar. Despite the fact that he could do little about Osasuna's four goals, even almost saving a penalty from Ante Budimir, his image has been damaged and he will seek to turn things around in front of the Barça fans at Montjuïc. In fact, in his first match at the Barça home ground, Peña managed to keep a clean sheet, a result he aims to repeat on Tuesday.
Defense: Koundé-Cubarsí-Iñigo Martínez-Balde
After Alejandro Balde and Iñigo Martínez came off the bench in the last league game, Hansi Flick is expected to start again with his favourite defence of the season. Jules Koundé will make his tenth consecutive start, becoming the only defender to have played the entire season.
Midfield: Raphinha-Marc Casadó-Pedri
Marc Casadó will return to the centre of midfield at the expense of Eric García, who will not be available for Hansi Flick after being sent off in the first matchday. He will be accompanied by Pedri González and Raphinha, who will act as a link between the pivots and the forwards, a role that he played very well in the first few matches of LaLiga.
Attack: Lamine Yamal-Lewandowski-Ferran Torres
Ferran Torres, who started against Osasuna, will start again, taking the place of Raphinha, who will be forced to move into the centre of his position. Next to him, a strengthened Lamine Yamal, who rested last weekend, and Robert Lewandowski, who, together with Koundé, will make his tenth consecutive start.
