Here's how the 2024/25 Champions League standings look after matchday three

Aston Villa are the surprising leaders of the Champions League after three rounds. Meanwhile, Barça (10th) have distanced themselves from Real Madrid (12th) in the table.

The third day of the 2024/25 Champions League ended with several surprise results and real surprises in the standings. In the key to Barça, the Blaugrana team made a statement with a historic victory against Bayern Munich (4-1) that allows Hansi Flick's team to get on the verge of the direct qualification places for the round of 16, while Real Madrid achieved a miraculous victory against Dortmund (5-2).

The top of the table has Aston Villa and Liverpool as leaders with 9 points. Unai Emery's team defeated Bologna (2-0) and remain undefeated, while the 'red' team beat RB Leipzig (0-1) in Germany 'in extremis'. Behind them is Manchester City, who crushed Sparta Prague at home (5-0) and has 7 points.

Monaco (5-1 against Red Star) remain unbeaten and are fourth, while Brest and Leverkusen (1-1) remain in the direct qualification zone after drawing with each other (fifth and sixth, respectively). Meanwhile, Inter Milan recorded a hard-fought victory against Young Boys (0-1) and are seventh. Eighth place currently belongs to Sporting CP, who finished the day with a 0-2 victory over Sturm Graz.

Barça and Real Madrid are close to the top eight

Further down, in 9th place, is Arsenal and, behind the 'nerazzurri', already in the 'play off' zone, are the two big teams in Spain, with Barça occupying 10th position after 'crushing' Bayern and, two places below, Real Madrid (12), who beat Borussia Dortmund (11), who remain ahead of the whites despite falling at the Bernabéu.

Next in line are Benfica (13), Juventus (14), Lille (15) and Feyenoord (16), all with 6 points, followed by Atalanta (17) with 5 points. Behind them are Stuttgart (18), PSG (19), Celtic (20), Sparta Prague (21) and Dinamo Zagreb (22), all with 4 points, while Bayern (23) and Girona (24) close the play-offs with 3 points.

Finally, outside the classification, for now, are AC Milan, Club Brugge, Atlético de Madrid, PSV Eindhoven, Bologna, Shahktar, RB Leipzig, Sturm Graz, Red Star, RB Salzburg, Young Boys and Slovan Bratislava. Matchday 4 of the league phase will be played between Tuesday 5 and Wednesday 6 November.
