The fifth round of the Champions League leaves Hansi Flick's Barça in 3rd place, while Real Madrid lost at Liverpool and dropped to 24th position!
The fifth round of the 2024/25 Champions League ended with several unexpected results and many surprises in the standings. Liverpool are the undisputed leaders of the championship with a full house of victories, followed by Inter Milan in 2nd place. For their part, FC Barcelona climbed to 3rd place after the thrashing of Brest and are on track to qualify directly for the round of 16.
The first 8 positions are completed by Borussia Dortmund (4th), Atalanta (5th), Bayer Leverkusen (6th), Arsenal (7th) and Monaco (8th). Already in the 'play off' zone are Aston Villa (9th), Sporting CP (10th), Brest (11th), Lille (12th), Bayern Munich (13th), Benfica (14th), Atlético de Madrid (15th) and AC Milan (16th), with the latter two rapidly rising in the table after several rounds close to the elimination positions.
Real Madrid 'sink' in the standings
Manchester City's crisis has dropped them to 17th place, ahead of PSV (18th), Juventus (19th) and Celtic (20th), while Feyenoord (21st), Club Brugge (22nd), Dinamo Zagreb (23rd) and Real Madrid (24th), after their brutal humiliation at Anfield Road with a missed penalty from Mbappé included, close the qualification for the 'play off'.
Finally, in the elimination zone are PSG, who fell by the minimum in Munich, Shakhtar Donetsk, Stuttgart, Sparta Prague, Sturm Graz, Girona, Red Star, RB Salzburg, Bologna, RB Leipzig, Slovan Bratislava and Young Boys. Matchday 6 of the Champions League league phase will be played between Tuesday 10th and Wednesday 11th December.
