Lamine Yamal could not finish the Barça-Dortmund match due to physical fatigue. Ansu Fati replaced him in the 87th minute
FC Barcelona crushed Borussia Dortmund (4-0) in an unforgettable night in Montjuïc. Hansi Flick's team was a real steamroller, especially in the second half, with two great goals from Robert Lewandowski and another from Lamine Yamal to round off a thrashing that puts the 'culés' in the Champions League semi-finals. Before the end, however, the player from Mataró gave a scare by requesting to be substituted due to an apparent muscle strain.
The '19' had closed the 'azulgrana' thrashing with a remarkable finish in the 77th minute, with a toe-poke after a pass from Rafa from the left, after a recovery by 'Lewy'. At 17 years and 270 days old, the youth player became the third footballer capable of scoring in the Champions League, from the quarter-finals onwards, before reaching the age of majority, only surpassed by Bojan Krkic (17 years and 217 days) and Jude Bellingham (17 years and 289 days).
However, in the 82nd minute, Lamine felt a discomfort in the back of his left leg and, as a precaution, looked at the bench to request a substitution. Dortmund provoked a corner in their favor, so the substitution was delayed for a couple of minutes. Finally, in the 87th minute, Ansu Fati came on in his place and Montjuïc took the opportunity to give him the loudest ovation of a night of absolute madness at the Lluís Companys.
Hansi Flick makes it clear what Lamine Yamal's physical condition is
Yamal, to the relief of all Barcelona fans, left with a smile, implying that his substitution, more than due to a possible injury, was due to fatigue after a match where he was the protagonist from beginning to end. The winger had two very clear chances in the first six minutes, one cleared by Kobel and another in which he preferred to shoot at goal with little angle.
Looking ahead to Saturday's match in Butarque against Leganés (9:00 PM CEST), it is likely that Hansi Flick will prefer to rest him if the youth player shows signs of exhaustion in the Thursday and Friday sessions. "Lamine is fine. He had played too many minutes so it was good that Ansu could play. It is important for him to have minutes. He is training very well and deserved to play," the coach explained to 'Movistar+' after the match.
