At just 17 years old, Barça's young pearl once again writes his name in the great history of the Champions League

Calendar of FC Barcelona

The wonder kid of FC Barcelona, Lamine Yamal, continues to write his name in the golden pages of world football. This time, the Spanish-Moroccan winger has set a historic mark after starting in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals between Borussia Dortmund and the Azulgrana team.

At just 17 years and 270 days old, Lamine Yamal has reached 20 matches played in the UEFA Champions League. With this, he has further established himself as the player with the most appearances in the competition before reaching adulthood, being the first to accumulate such numbers.

A record that seems unattainable

Lamine Yamal has surpassed other talents in the category by a wide margin:

  1. Youri Tielemans
  2. Jude Bellingham
  3. Warren Zaïre-Emery
  4. Pau Cubarsí
  5. Geovany Quenda

All of them with a maximum of 10 matches before turning 18. Among them, Geovany Quenda was the only one who could still close the gap, but Sporting CP has been eliminated from the competition and the young Portuguese left winger will turn 18 on April 30th, so he will not be able to increase his records.

A bright future ahead

In contrast, Lamine Yamal continues to add matches, as Barcelona is still alive in the current edition of the Champions League. At a minimum, the '19' will play the return leg of the quarter-final tie against Borussia Dortmund, which would allow him to reach his 21st appearance in the competition.

Now, if the Barça team manages to advance to the final, the player from Rocafonda could close the season with 24 matches in the Champions League, all before turning 18 on July 13th. By this date, the 2024/25 season will have ended, so Lamine Yamal could only extend his historic record to that number of matches. A record difficult to match.
