Robert Lewandowski scored a brace against Young Boys on Matchday 2 of the Champions League. With these goals, the Pole broke some impressive new records
Robert Lewandowski was one of the great figures in FC Barcelona's brutal 5-0 thrashing of Young Boys. In the Champions League matchday 2, the Polish star celebrated a double, scoring the opening goal of the match and then sealing the result by scoring the fourth goal against the Swiss side.
With the two goals scored against the team managed by Patrick Rahmen, the Blaugrana star reached several records that put him on a par with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, arguably the two best footballers to have played in the continental competition.
Lewandowski reaches 50 goals after turning 30
'Lewy' has become the second player in the history of the UEFA Champions League to reach 50 goals after turning 30, scoring his 51st goal against Young Boys and only surpassed by Cristiano Ronaldo, who with 68 goals has scored more in that stage of his career.
Robert is the Champions League's top scorer
On the other hand, Lewandowski scored his 96th goal in the Champions League, averaging 0.79 goals per game in the tournament, which is the best average among players who have reached 50 goals in the competition along with Lionel Messi (0.79). Behind them are Cristiano Ronaldo and Ruud van Nistelrooy (0.77 goals per game) and Karim Benzema, who rounds off the top 5 with an average of 0.59 goals per game.
