The Andalusian speaks clearly ahead of the match against Dortmund and sends a message to the critics

Calendar of FC Barcelona

Pablo Gavi was the player responsible for appearing at the press conference prior to the first leg of the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League 2024-25 between the FC Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund (09/04 | Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys | 21:00 h). The Andalusian midfielder, always dedicated on the field, showed his most open and direct version, leaving several statements that will give a lot to talk about, many of them from a very personal tone.

💥 Strong statements about his playing style

Almost at the end of his intervention, Gavi left one of the most striking phrases of the press conference. With an ironic tone, he responded to those who criticize his playing style. It should be noted that on more than one occasion, the native of Los Palacios and Villafranca has been labeled as a player who relies on physical deployment and just 'putting in a leg', sometimes being somewhat rough in his interventions.

However, Gavi, a player also very technical, left a damning message for his detractors:

"It's true what people say that I don't know how to play football. They have no f*cking idea. That's fine"

❤️ Dream of retiring at FC Barcelona

Another of the most interesting statements from the player from Palacios was when the academy graduate spoke about his future as a player for the FC Barcelona. Gavi expressed his desire to play his whole life at the club of his dreams, Barça:

"Obviously, I would like to retire at Barça. You never know, but if it were up to me, I would retire here"

🤝 Relationship with Hansi Flick

Likewise, Gavi  referred to his relationship with the azulgrana coach, Hansi Flick, with whom he has been seen on more than one occasion to be very close.  "Hansi and I are very connected. He understands that I come from a serious injury. It’s tough coming back from a year out, but for me, the season is going spectacularly. I am very happy with him", he admitted.

Additionally, the '6' added that the management of the German coach has helped him evolve as a player: "Flick is putting me in many positions and this can improve my game. It will be very good for my future. The more complete I am, the better. That is something Flick is doing with me", he pointed out.

He praised Flick's human dimension:

"Hansi is helping me with many football concepts, but also on my more human side. Since I was little, I had always played as a starter, and it's something my mind had to understand, that I can't always be a starter. Flick is spectacular, and we are very happy to have him as a coach".

🧠 His ideal position on the field

The '6' did not hesitate to delve into the tactical diversity he is gaining under the tutelage of the German coach. "I am playing in various midfield positions. It's a good thing. The mister is seeing me more as an attacking midfielder, but I can play as a double pivot or as a '6'. The more positions I play, the better", he added.

💪 Physical and mental state after the injury

Gavi was also asked about his recovery after a long injury and gave several keys about it:

  • 🏋🏼‍♂️ "It's true that I am not having such an important role, but it's normal because I come from a long injury. I am very happy with the recovery I have had".
  • 🏋🏼‍♂️ "I think it shows on the field. Nothing has changed from before the injury. I have the same mentality. I am calm and happy with my return. It's true that there are players who don't come back the same, but I am calm because I know what I am capable of".

🏆 The dream of the treble

Gavi did not shy away from the question about FC Barcelona's chances of winning the treble this season, a latent reality considering that the azulgrana team is still alive and has serious options in the three competitions that make up this achievement: LaLiga, the Champions League, and the Copa del Rey. However, although he showed optimism, the Andalusian shares Hansi Flick's philosophy of only thinking about the next match.

"There are players who dream big, and that's fine, but I think we need to focus on winning the next match", stated the midfielder.

In that same line, Gavi admitted that he does not have many memories of the first treble achieved by Barcelona, but he did recognize that there is a clear culture of ambition in the club to reach historic goals like the treble or even the sextuple. "I was very young, I don't remember very well. At La Masia, you always dream of winning the treble or the sextuple, the maximum number of titles possible", he concluded.
