Bayern Munich were beaten on Wednesday in Montjuïc against FC Barcelona (4-1) on a particularly tough night for Thomas Müller. The 35-year-old forward started, but could do absolutely nothing to avoid the hard Bavarian fall against an opponent whom the '25' had hurt on several previous occasions.
The one from Bavaria had 8 goals and 2 assists in 10 games against Barça, but was 'erased' from the field by Pau Cubarsí and Iñigo Martínez, both in their best moment with the Barça team. After the match, the '25' recognized the culé's superiority and did not hide his admiration for the Catalan club.
"I always, or most of the time, enjoyed playing against Barça, but as we have seen, it requires a lot of work and today it didn't work out. It's not a good night for us," commented the experienced German attacker in the mixed zone.
Müller gets 'wet' about his admiration for Barça and the 'hatred' of the culé fans
In that sense, Müller made it clear that, years ago, he followed Barcelona before establishing himself in the elite as a Bayern footballer. "I really like Barcelona, as a city and as a club. I liked watching them play in their very good times before my career," explained the German international.
Regarding the whistles from the Barça fans, Thomas avoided falling into controversy. "I know they don't love me, but I take it sportingly," he said with an ironic smile. The Montjuïc stands gave him a loud whistle when Jamal Musiala came on in his place in the 59th minute, one of the 4 changes made by Vincent Kompany in the second half.
