UEFA never tires of causing controversy. In the 2024/25 season we will have the biggest change to the Champions League in recent years with 36 teams and a 'league phase' instead of the 'group phase' we were all used to. But, as if that were not enough, they have also decided to modify the emblematic anthem to start a more modern era of football worldwide.
Although the anthem maintains its essence, a new arrangement has been made with emphasis on the vocal part, which would not have pleased the fans very much, who expressed themselves through social networks to express their discontent. The social network 'X' (formerly Twitter) was filled with comments such as: "They have changed the Champions League anthem, they are definitely ruining the football we fell in love with" or "what an absurd mania to change it and ruin everything. The small but significant anthem will be one of the novelties in what will be a tournament that promises to go down in history, with the largest number of teams to date. The draw for the 'league phase' will take place on August 29 in Monaco. The 36 teams will be divided into four pots according to the UEFA ranking and, from there, a software will proceed to define the future of each club and its 8 rivals. The first matches of the tournament will be held on September 17, 2024.
