FC Barcelona now knows the date and time of its debut in the Copa del Rey 2024/25. Hansi Flick's team will debut in the round of 32 against Barbastro, a rival that the Catalans already faced in the previous edition of the tournament in the same round. That match, also played in Huesca, ended with a narrow victory for the Catalans (2-3).
This season, the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) scheduled the match at the Estadio Municipal Restrepo for Thursday, January 4 at 7:00 PM, a unique match that, in case of a tie, will require extra time to determine the team advancing to the round of 16.
Barça will start its schedule in January against Barbastro
Barça fell in the quarter-finals in 2023/24 against Athletic Club (4-2 in extra time), a team that ended up winning the title after defeating Mallorca in the final (1-1, 4-2 on penalties). Against Barbastro, Barça will play its first match of 2025, as LaLiga will just return to action in the middle of the month, during the weekend of January 17 to 19.
The Catalans must face Getafe in Madrid on Sunday the 19th, a couple of days before traveling to Portugal for the match against Benfica, for the seventh round of the Champions League. Valencia and Atalanta, both in Montjuïc, will be Barça's last opponents in the first month of 2025.
However, after the visit to Huesca, the team led by Hansi Flick will travel to Arabia for the Supercopa de España. In the 'semis', the Catalan rival will be none other than Athletic, while Mallorca and Real Madrid will contest the other bracket. If they get past the match against Barbastro, the Catalans will likely have to play the round of 16 of the tournament on January 15 or 16.
