Calendar of FC Barcelona

Bad news for the 28-year-old Danish defender, Andreas Christensen. The FC Barcelona has recently used its communication channels to report that the '15' has been injured again, a physical setback suffered in Monday's training session.

The Azulgrana team has officially announced that Andreas Christensen has suffered an injury to the sole of his right leg. This setback will leave him out of action, according to the club's estimates, for about three weeks, marking his second physical setback of the season.

Follow Christensen's 'calvary' with injuries

It is important to remember that Andreas Christensen has only been able to play one official match in this 2024-25 season under the orders of Hansi Flick. This was the match that kicked off the campaign against Valencia CF (1-2), corresponding to matchday 1 of LaLiga EA Sports, held on August 17 at Mestalla, where the Dane entered in the 64th minute replacing Pau Cubarsí in defense.

After that match, which Christensen completed without any apparent physical issues, it was announced, after the corresponding medical studies, that he was suffering from tendinopathy in the left Achilles, requiring surgery. This injury kept him away from the field for five months, receiving medical clearance just on January 17.

When will the Dane return to action?

Just three calls later (Getafe CF, SL Benfica, and Valencia CF), in which he could not play, he has been injured again, having to miss, as planned by the club, a total of five matches

  • Atalanta (01/29) - UEFA Champions League
  • Deportivo Alavés (02/02) - LaLiga EA Sports (matchday 22)
  • Valencia CF (02/06) - Copa del Rey quarterfinals
  • Sevilla (02/09) - LaLiga EA Sports (matchday 23)
  • Rayo Vallecano (02/17) - LaLiga EA Sports (matchday 24)

Under this premise, Andreas Christensen could be ready for the LaLiga EA Sports match against UD Las Palmas (02/22).

Andreas' Injury: a 'blow' to FC Barcelona's Market Planning

This Andreas Christensen's injury, it's worth mentioning, could also disrupt the planning in this winter market with respect to his role at FC Barcelona. It's worth remembering that the Allerød native was one of the names that was strongly linked to leaving the culé team in this winter window, being a player with a very good market value and perhaps not having too much space in Hansi Flick's sporting scheme.

Initially, he seems to be a player with clear chances of being the fifth center back behind Pau Cubarsí, Ronald Araujo, Iñigo Martínez, and Eric García, which could lead to an exit. This departure, on the other hand, beyond giving the Dane the opportunity to see action and gain continuity in his game, could also serve as an important element to free up wage bill and make another signing in this winter market. This is an issue that, given the injury suffered by the '15', would undoubtedly be complicated, even if it were in the form of a loan.
