Barça asked UEFA for a minute's silence in honor of Carles Miñarro

Calendar of FC Barcelona

The passing of Dr. Carles Miñarro García, at the age of 53, has undoubtedly been an event that has caused great shock in all sectors of Barcelona fans. From players to executives and even a significant portion of the culé fan base, they have emotionally felt the loss of the renowned physician, who in life had an impeccable professional career.

It is worth remembering that although he formally became the team doctor in the 2024-25 season, Miñarro García had been part of the Blaugrana institution since 2017, but he was serving in the futsal section. Nevertheless, despite the short time he had been part of the medical staff of the Barcelona men's football team, where he replaced Dr. Xavier Valle, it did not prevent him from earning the affection of both insiders and outsiders in the Catalan entity.

With this in mind, it is not surprising to see the massive displays of affection and respect that have been pouring in lately following his passing, both from the institution as well as from the executives and players. Even the players have practically one by one reported on their social media, leaving a message of gratitude and praise to the memory of Carles Miñarro.

Barcelona submitted a request to UEFA to hold a minute of silence in memory of Dr. Miñarro

Now, FC Barcelona will honor the memory and legacy of Carles Miñarro by dedicating a minute of silence before the crucial match the Blaugrana will have against SL Benfica this Tuesday (18:45 CET - Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys) in the UEFA Champions League 2024-25, marking the closure of the round of 16 tie and the first match following the tragic news.

It is important to mention that the match against CA Osasuna in LaLiga EA Sports 2024-25 was suspended precisely due to the severe emotional impact caused by this news on the culé squad. This happened shortly before the start of the match against the Navarrese team.

UEFA's response to this request from the Blaugrana club was affirmative

At this point, as reported by 'Mundo Deportivo', UEFA approved this request. This decision is in line with the stance that the governing body of football in Europe has taken. For instance, last week, UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin granted permission for a minute of silence to be observed in the match between Real Madrid and Atlético, in memory of Javier Dorado, a former player of the Madrid team who sadly passed away at the age of 48 due to leukemia.

This approval by UEFA to carry out this symbolic gesture is the second display of flexibility shown by the European football governing body towards FC Barcelona following the death of Dr. Carles Miñarro. The other, as recently revealed, was that no player appeared at the pre-match press conference, deviating from the usual protocol, as only Hansi Flick faced the media in these difficult mourning moments.
