FC Barcelona captured the spotlight at the gala organized by the Italian newspaper 'Tuttosport'. Lamine Yamal was recognized with the Golden Boy and Vicky López with the Golden Girl, awards given to the best footballers in the male and female categories under 21 years old from all European leagues.
Additionally, Aitana Bonmatí was recognized with the Golden Woman, an award given to the best player over 21 years old. Since Barça decided not to attend Turin due to logistical issues, the players participated virtually and expressed their gratitude for the award.
"I want to thank you for this award. I’m sorry I can’t be at the gala, but we have a match against Manchester City on Wednesday where we are fighting to be first in the group," began Aitana, who later dedicated the award to her teammates "because I always say that individual awards are thanks to the teammates who make me better."
Similarly, Vicky López connected from the press room at the Sports City and apologized for her absence. "I’m sorry I’m not there. I’m not there for logistical reasons. I hope to keep enjoying. Keep the excitement. May all injuries respect me and always thinking big," said the 18-year-old midfielder.
Lamine Yamal and Joan Laporta also shared a few words
Moments later, Lamine Yamal took the floor and, in addition to talking about his injury, left a strong message in a Barça context. "I need to recover. But I really want to return to help," he began, then stated that "in five years I imagine myself at Barça, at the club of my life, winning all possible titles. Hopefully the Champions League. And with the national team, hopefully winning the World Cup."
Finally, Joan Laporta expressed his gratitude for the recognition from 'Tuttosport' through a video. "We regret not participating in this splendid gala, I’m sorry not to be with you. As president of Barça, I want to thank you for the awards to the players of Barça. Congratulations to the awardees, especially to Lamine, Aitana, and Vicky", concluded the president.
