With 139 goals in 45 matches, Hansi Flick's Barça aims to make history this season

Calendar of FC Barcelona

FC Barcelona continues its overwhelming pace in the 2024-25 season across all competitions. On Sunday, the thrashing against Girona (4-1) allowed Hansi Flick's team to reach 139 goals in 45 matches played. 82 of those goals have been scored in LaLiga, where the club remains in the lead with a 3-point advantage over Real Madrid.

Thus, Barça maintains an average of 3.08 goals per match. The goals scored by Flick's team this season are divided as follows:

  • LaLiga: 82 goals in 29 matches.
  • UEFA Champions League: 32 goals in 10 matches.
  • Copa del Rey: 18 goals in 4 matches.
  • Supercopa de España: 7 goals in 2 matches.

Barça approaches its best offensive season in history

The record for most goals scored by FC Barcelona in a season across all competitions stands at 90 goals, achieved in the 2011-12 season, with Pep Guardiola at the helm. This record was reached in 64 matches played, with an average of 2.97 goals per match.

That season, Barça had a Lionel Messi at his peak, who scored 73 goals, significantly contributing to this historic mark. This, in fact, remains the best goal tally in a single season for the Catalan club and the highest in the history of European football.

In LaLiga, the Catalans scored 114 goals but finished second with 91 points. However, the record for goals scored by Barça in the Spanish Primera División is 116 in the 2016-17 season, in Luis Enrique's last season in charge of the team.

That year, interestingly, the Catalans also failed to secure the title. The absolute record, in the case of LaLiga, remains with Real Madrid, with 120 goals scored in the 2011-12 season.

Hansi Flick focuses on each match and not on statistical records

Thus, Barça will have at least 12 more matches in the 2024-25 season to try to surpass their historical high across all competitions, not counting a hypothetical Copa del Rey final or the semifinals or final of the Champions League.

In the league, if they maintain the current average (3 goals per match), the team could finish the championship with 109 goals scored. And, if they play all possible matches in the three competitions, it is likely that Barça will end the 24-25 season with around 187 goals scored. A true madness that, at the same time, keeps the door open for a new treble.

In any case, Hansi Flick made it clear after the thrashing against Girona that the important thing is to keep the focus match by match and not on records. "For me, the important thing was the three points. I'm happy with the match. The defense was very good and the substitutions were very positive", he pointed out in the post-match press conference.
