Bayern Munich has reopened one of the deepest wounds in Barcelona fans. Through their 'X' account, the Bavarians remembered one of the darkest days in the club's recent history

Calendar of FC Barcelona

Four years and one day have passed since FC Barcelona experienced one of the toughest moments in the club's history. August 14, 2020 remains increasingly distant in the memory of Barcelona fans, who out of pride and, at the same time, although paradoxically, shame, have decided to erase from their collective imagination the memory of an event that, every time it comes to light, The light opens a wound that has been difficult to close over time.

That infamous day, in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, the Barça squad suffered one of the most painful and humiliating defeats, not only in the history of the entity, but also in the UEFA Champions League. At the Estádio da Luz, Bayern Munich beat the Catalans with an unusual score of 2-8 in the match corresponding to the quarterfinals of the continental tournament. That Bavarian team was led by the current culé coach, Hansi Flick, who had Robert Lewandowski in his ranks, who scored the sixth goal of that win.

Last Wednesday, August 14, 2024, the Bavarians decided to remember this victory four years after that event. For this reason, they published on their social networks a video that reviews the best moments of the match against the Blaugrana squad, coached by Quique Setién whose journey in the institution ended after the referee's final whistle.

The end of the golden generation

At the end of the match, Gerard Piqué faced the media in the mixed zone and left some forceful statements that represented a change in the dynamics of the club. Outraged, the historic central defender even proposed his departure from the team if this would help turn around the situation of the entity. "It was a horrible match, a disastrous feeling, shame is the word, you can't compete like that, you can't go through Europe like that, it's very hard," he declared.

The defeat against the Bavarian team meant the end of a golden generation that, since that summer, would gradually leave Barcelona. First it was Suárez, who put Atlético de Madrid in that transfer market, later Lionel Messi, and a couple of years later the last three bastions of Pep's Barça: Piqué himself, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba.
