The delays in the remodeling works at the Spotify Camp Nou will force the club to stay longer than desired in Montjuïc. However, the Lluís Companys will only be available until May
Barcelona City Council has planned a series of special activities to take place at the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium from the end of spring 2025. In this sense, the local authorities have already notified FC Barcelona that, if they have not returned to the Spotify Camp At that time, Nou will have to look for another venue to finish 2024/25.
In principle, the club could play without problems in Montjuïc until April 30, 2025. From May 1, a series of cultural events will prevent matches from being held at the Lluís Companys, a stadium that the Barça team has rented in the summer of 2023 for a year and a half to play their home games in the League, Cup and Champions League.
Although the contract ends on December 31, the culé board plans to extend it for at least three more months, since the return to the Camp Nou may be delayed until February or March of next year. The most realistic deadlines, according to the progress of the works, warn that the Barça temple would be in a position to receive matches with a reduced capacity in the middle of that month, as long as the works do not suffer further delays in recent weeks.
Barça's home calendar in May would include up to four games
If these deadlines are met, Barça would have no problems closing the season at the Estadi, but if not, another alternative venue would have to be found for the last three days of LaLiga (Valladolid, Real Madrid and Villarreal) that the club must play as local, in addition to a hypothetical Champions League semi-finals (the first week of May).
The most important match confirmed for that stretch is, without a doubt, the second Liga Clásico against Madrid. The clash on matchday 34 could well define the tournament and Barça will have not only the home advantage, but also in the direct confrontation after the 0-4 obtained at the Santiago Bernabéu last October. Barring a surprise, the last Barça-Madrid of the season will be played on Sunday, May 11.
If they cannot count on the Camp Nou or Montjuïc, the culés would only have to move to Cornellà-El Prat during the last month of the season, since the Montilivi option seems much less feasible due to capacity issues. If an agreement is not reached with Espanyol, the club would be forced to play outside of Catalonia, something unthinkable for the board and the fans.
