Calendar of FC Barcelona

This December 19 commemorates a truly historic date for the world of football, but especially for FC Barcelona and its fans. Why? On this date, 15 years ago, an unprecedented achievement was finalized: the legendary 'sextuple' of Pep Guardiola's Barça.

This honor was achieved after the azulgrana team was crowned champion in 2009 in LaLiga, Copa del Rey, and Supercopa de España at the local level, and at the international level, it positioned itself as the monarch of the UEFA Champions League, the Supercopa de Europa, and the Club World Cup.

This date has been taken as an anniversary since on December 19, 2009, FC Barcelona sealed this magnificent achievement by being crowned champions of the Club World Cup after winning the final of that tournament.

The final of that tournament was held at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi, where Barcelona defeated Estudiantes de la Plata 2-1. In an exciting match, the culé team started losing 1-0 with a goal from Mauro Boselli, but managed to equalize with a goal from Pedro Rodríguez in the 88th minute. Finally, in extra time, the actions tilted in favor of the azulgranas with a goal from Lionel Andrés Messi in the 102nd minute.

LaLiga 2008-09

This sealed a historic feat that had begun to take shape from the moment the achievement of LaLiga 2008-09 was officially recognized. In that tournament, Barcelona was crowned champion after playing 38 matches, accumulating a total of 87 points with 27 wins, six draws, and five losses. The culé team had a brutal goal difference, with 105 goals scored and only 35 conceded.

The team from the City of Condal left Real Madrid behind, which finished in second place with 78 points. In addition, Barcelona demonstrated overwhelming superiority by maintaining the lead from the ninth matchday until the end of the championship.

Copa del Rey 2008-09

The second achievement of this mythical 'sextuple' was the Copa del Rey of the 2008-09 season, a trophy obtained on May 13, 2009. In the final, Barcelona faced Athletic Club, a match that they sealed with an undeniable 4-1.

Although the Basques quickly took the lead with a goal from Gaizka Toquero in the 9th minute, the azulgrana team unleashed an important whirlwind of play. Yaya Touré scored in the 32nd minute, Lionel Messi in the 54th, Bojan Krkić in the 57th, and Xavi Hernández in the 64th minute, thus completing a flawless feat.

Previously, Barcelona eliminated RCD Mallorca in the semifinals (3-1), Espanyol in the quarter-finals (2-3), Atlético de Madrid in the round of 16 (2-5), and Benidorm CD in the fourth round (0-2).

UEFA Champions League 2008-09

The third honor of this feat was the victory in the UEFA Champions League 2008-09, a few days after securing the Copa del Rey. On May 27, at the Olympic Stadium in Rome, Barcelona won 2-0 against Manchester United, with goals from Samuel Eto'o in the 10th minute and Leo Messi in the 70th.

During that campaign, Barcelona had a standout performance in the group stage, accumulating 13 points out of 18 possible by winning four matches, drawing one, and losing another. In the knockout stages, the culé team faced Olympique Lyon in the round of 16 (final result 3-6), Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals (5-1), and Chelsea in the semi-finals (1-1).

Supercopa de España 2009

After that, with the fourth title at stake, Barcelona lifted the Supercopa de España on August 23 by becoming champions in a two-leg series, defeating Athletic Club with an aggregate score of 1-5.

The first leg took place at San Mamés Stadium on August 16 and ended 1-2 in favor of Barcelona, where notable goals were scored by Óscar de Marcos in the 44th minute, Xavi Hernández in the 59th, and Pedro Rodríguez in the 68th.

In the return leg, played at Camp Nou, Barça won convincingly 3-0, with a brace from Leo Messi scoring in the 50th and 68th minutes, and the rout was capped off by Bojan Krkić in the 72nd.

UEFA Super Cup 2009

Finally, the fifth title that Barcelona would achieve was the UEFA Super Cup, which took place on August 28, 2009, at the Louis II Stadium in Monaco. On that day, the culé team, as champions of the UEFA Champions League, defeated Shakhtar Donetsk, the monarch of the Europa League, in an exciting match that was decided by the smallest margin.

It was thanks to a goal from Pedro Rodríguez in the 115th minute, thus sealing Barcelona's third title in this type of competition. This achievement marked an undeniable step forward for a team that, without a doubt, will be etched in the history of football.
