An immense talent
Dani Olmo is a breath of fresh air for FC Barcelona
The attacking midfielder from Terrassa is not managing to secure a place in the starting eleven for reasons of a different nature, but he leaves his mark every time he steps on the pitch
Talented footballers always shine, even in the darkest of scenarios. Dani Olmo is no exception. The Catalan is going through a very complex season because, despite having managed to return to FC Barcelona, injuries and bureaucratic problems do not allow him to breathe. This season, he has been off the pitch for 51 days due to muscle problems. Also, the problem with his registration has made him miss the debut in the Copa del Rey against Barbastro and the semi-final of the Spanish Super Cup against Athletic. In this context, it is difficult to make a place for himself in the starting eleven.
So far in 2025, he has participated in 6 of the 12 commitments that the Blaugrana team has had. Of these, he has only played one game as a starter, in the cup tie against Real Betis (5-1). That match, in which he gave two assists and kicked a ball against the post, is the only one in which he has played more than half an hour. The average number of minutes he has played in the new year is 36, a figure that is higher due to the aforementioned match against the green and white team, in which he was on the pitch from the referee's initial whistle until the end.
Few minutes, a lot of magic
Despite the situation Olmo is in, since he first put on the jersey, his signing has not been called into question at any time. It is not a coincidence. The reality is that the number 20 shirt is a breath of fresh air every time he enters the field. He has the ability to adapt to the needs of the team, as he can play on both wings, as an attacking midfielder or as an inside midfielder. Wherever he is, he contributes. His offensive potential is such that the statistics fall short: in LaLiga his expected goals are 2.45, while the actual goals are 5.
When he is on the field, he takes on a lot of importance. His teammates know that he is a very special footballer. On Monday, against Rayo Vallecano, he played 24 minutes in a match in which Barça was suffering. In the classic '10' role, he had the ball 22 times, made 92% of his passes and created a goal-scoring opportunity with magical control. He didn't need time to acclimatise to the match, he entered the field and adapted like a glove to the context of the duel, making the difference.

Dani Olmo is having a very complicated season. His signing was heavily criticised for the price, perhaps also for the eagerness of the culé fans for Nico Williams to arrive. In addition, he does not end up having continuity. However, he is a footballer with enormous talent. He has resources for all situations: unthinkable controls, powerful dribbles, accurate shots or dangerous passes. It is vital to be patient with him, because he has a lot to offer FC Barcelona.
