Deco, the sports director of FC Barcelona, has not hesitated to address in an interview the issue of Hansi Flick's renewal with the Barca box
The arrival of Hansi Flick at FC Barcelona has caused a real stir within the Blaugrana team. The German coach was officially appointed as the head coach back in July and arrived with a significant mission: to take over Xavi Hernandez's sports project, which was struggling and coming off a trophy-less 2023-24 season, to revitalize it and lead it back to the top. A goal that seemed achievable considering the players available in the Barcelona squad.
Now, after several months since Hansi Flick took charge as the coach of FC Barcelona, everything seems to be going extremely well. Firstly, his management is backed by his numbers so far: 36 matches managed, 26 victories, four draws, and six losses. This successful percentage of over 83% of matches without knowing defeat, coupled with the fact that he has already secured his first title as a Barça member: the 2025 Spanish Super Cup.
Furthermore, the impression that FC Barcelona leaves on the field is extremely positive. An offensively lethal team, with a great scoring ability, defensively solid (using an offside tactic that troubles their opponents), and with an enviable physical resilience and such a strong mentality that allows them to face adversity with great intelligence.
The topic of Hansi Flick's renewal appears to be 'on hold,' but... why?
Considering all this, it's not surprising that FC Barcelona, seeing how Hansi Flick also aligns with the club's philosophy of betting on and nurturing young talents from the academy, is interested in extending the contract of the German coach beyond June 30, 2026, when his current deal with the Catalan club expires. It seems like this process is already in motion, although there is no apparent rush.
Recently, the sporting director of FC Barcelona, Deco, stated in an interview with the Spanish media outlet 'SPORT' that the current state of negotiations is as follows. "Here we move too quickly in everything, right? Here we go from euphoria to desperation in minutes. Of course, when things are going well, it has happened with other coaches as well, who have renewed. It's the natural and normal sequence of a functioning project, where things are on the right track," he emphasized.

However, Deco has been emphatic that the renewal of the German coach is on hold, not due to doubts, but because both Flick and the FC Barcelona management are prioritizing the development of the current season. "We have won a title, played well, and the feelings are good. This is the most important thing, what people want and what the Barça fans need. We are also happy with the work being done day by day. From here, if we need to reach a point of renewal, we will do it. I think right now, neither for him nor for us, the priority is to discuss this," he concluded.
