The FC Barcelona board is evaluating some modifications to the schedule of the works at Spotify Camp Nou so that the team can return to the Estadi in May, playing the last two or three matches of the 2024-25 season at Les Corts. The latest information indicates the postponement of the maneuver called 'Big Lift', crucial for the installation of the new roof of the culé temple, to the summer of 2026.
Initially, it was expected that this task would take place next summer, covering an approximate period of three months, as happened with the roofs of the new San Mamés and the Metropolitano, whose characteristics are quite similar. However, Barça believes that it is best to leave this step for the end of the project, in the summer of 2026, due to the complexity of the installation of the wiring.
Barça insists on returning to Camp Nou in May
Additionally, to start the 'Big Lift', it is essential to have completed the entire structure of the third tier, which has just begun to show its foundations. For the board, the ideal scenario is to close the 2024-25 season at the Estadi beyond having secured the rental of Montjuïc, a decision that will entail a significant pause in the works for at least a month (May). Hence, the works on the third tier are to be completed this summer and, at the end of the 2025-26 season, the roof lifting will proceed.
Barça will return to Camp Nou with a capacity of 65,000 spectators. If the postponement of the roof installation is confirmed, during the next season, the entire upper ring, including the Llotja and VIP boxes, will not have shelter from the rain. The club must also begin to pay the installments of the loan in January of the coming year, so it is necessary to reserve cash to meet these obligations, without compromising the planning for the upcoming market.
