FC Barcelona are clear about their stance on the renewal of Wojciech Szczęsny, as Deco expressed in a recent interview
The life of Wojciech Szczęsny has taken a real turn in recent months. The Polish goalkeeper went from being retired, enjoying a well-deserved vacation, to becoming the starting goalkeeper for FC Barcelona, all in just a few months. His return to the field of play has raised a serious question about the future of '25'.
'Tek' has certainly proven to be a reliable option for the FC Barcelona goal, to the point that, judging by what has been seen so far this season, unless there is an unexpected turn of events, he will finish the season as the starting goalkeeper for the Blaugrana club, ahead of Iñaki Peña who has surprisingly been relegated to the role of Szczęsny's backup.

However, there also seems to be some uncertainty about Wojciech Szczęsny's continuity as the FC Barcelona goalkeeper for the next season. It is worth remembering that 'Tek' signed a contract with the Blaugrana until June 30, 2025, and furthermore, for the 2025-26 season, it is expected that Marc-André ter Stegen will be recovered from his complete rupture of the right knee patellar tendon and fully ready to return as the undisputed 'number 1', which would relegate the Pole to a secondary role.
Deco reveals Barcelona's stance on Szczęsny's renewal
Given this scenario, it would not be surprising to consider that Szczęsny might be contemplating retirement... or perhaps not. At least, that is an option that FC Barcelona seems to be considering, as they do not rule out the idea of 'Tek' renewing for another season to provide depth to the Culé goalkeeping department.
Deco, sporting director of FC Barcelona, mentioned in an interview with the sports newspaper 'SPORT': "We have not discussed this yet. He is a high-level goalkeeper, a great professional with a lot of experience, who is very important for the team because of his charisma, as are others. We must take it step by step. Enthusiasm should not lead us to make hasty decisions. If he is happy and doing well here, he is a player to consider because he can contribute a lot next year, but I do not yet know his plans. We have not talked about that, but we will surely speak about it in the near future," he commented.

Therefore, apparently, FC Barcelona is open to the option of renewing Wojciech Szczęsny's contract to be Marc-André ter Stegen's backup. Given this stance, will the Pole accept staying on for another year as a Culé? And if so, how will this affect the future of Iñaki Peña, whose role in the club is not entirely clear? Many uncertainties surround this decision, which apparently will have to be waited upon until the end of the season to know.
