BARÇA COULD GO FOR A CATALAN TALENT
FC Barcelona's 'dark horse' for right back
FC Barcelona have a very interesting option available to reinforce their right-back position. We are talking about an Olympic gold medalist in Paris, who could leave his current club before August 30 for a very low price
FC Barcelona are interested in Marc Pubill. The 21-year-old could leave Almería this summer after his move to Atalanta fell through at the last minute, after passing the medical. The Olympic gold medalist in Paris was rejected by the Italians, who preferred to sign the Brazilian Wesley.
Therefore, it is clear that he is still looking for other alternatives to avoid playing in the Second Division of Spanish football, since a talent like his cannot be lost. One of the most striking options would be the culé team, who do not look with bad eyes on getting a 'low cost' right-back to reinforce Hansi Flick's squad.
The board approved his signing
The player is quite well valued in the Ciudad Condal. This has been confirmed by 'SPORT', after the scouts and the technical secretary of the culé team approved his transfer. The club believes that he has a promising future and wanted a highly interesting signing in relation quality/price. Atalanta were going to pay 15 million fixed plus five in variables for the Catalan, remembering that Levante, who sold Pubill to Almería for five 'kilos' in the summer of 2023, kept 25% of his future sale.
Pubill would come to reinforce the right flank, where he would be Jules Koundé's substitute, who is a starter in Hansi Flick's team. Another option that the coach has is the youth player Héctor Fort, who still has a roster spot in the reserve team and would be affected if the Catalan arrives at Barcelona. Right now, the Paris 2024 champion continues to train with Almería, with whom he played the first day of the second category of Spanish football against Santander.
Deco has other plans
Although there is interest in Pubill from Barcelona, Deco continues to believe that Joao Cancelo is the best option at right back. But he is also aware that it will be difficult to negotiate with Manchester City, who want a sale and not another loan. In addition, the Portuguese would have to lower his salary to join the team, something he has no intention of doing at the moment. If an agreement is not reached, the Catalan's option would be activated.
If this were the case, Pubill would have the opportunity to continue growing in his career, where he could share a dressing room with his teammates: Fermín, Pau Cubarsí and Eric García. His arrival would also add youth to the squad and Flick could make him one of the best players at right back. We will soon know if his arrival will be a reality or not.
