FC Barcelona is confident of having Thiago Alcántara on its coaching staff for the second half of 2024/25. Hansi Flick already knows when his assistant will return

Calendar of FC Barcelona

The FC Barcelona coaching staff hopes to have Thiago Alcántara again starting next January. The former Spanish midfielder joined Hansi Flick's staff during the preseason, but had to interrupt his work with the Barça team to resolve financial matters in England. And, although the one from San Pietro Vernotico announced his professional retirement at the end of 2023/24, he still pays taxes as a Liverpool player until December 2024.

This meant that, beyond agreeing to return to Barça as part of the new Barça coaching staff, there was no official announcement from the club regarding his hiring. However, Thiago will be able to sign his contract as a culé coach from January 1, 2025, when his obligations with the English treasury end. The former Barça youth player worked for a couple of weeks alongside Flick, quickly earning the respect of the squad for his undisputed experience.

Thiago Alcántara continues working with Barça from England

Both met at Bayern Munich during 2019/20, Alcántara's last season at the Bavarian team. That year they forged an excellent relationship that made things easier for the former Spanish footballer to quickly transition from the field to the bench. However, despite having missed the first half of the season, Thiago continues to work remotely with the Barça staff.

As confirmed by 'Mundo Deportivo', the former footballer of Italian-Brazilian origin usually chats with Flick and the rest of the coaching staff through video conferences. Furthermore, after Marc Bernal's withdrawal was confirmed, he was very active in the failed signing of Stefan Bajcetic, an operation that Barça ended up discarding due to its financial problems. In the end, the Vigo-born player opted for Salzburg, a club he joined on loan for one year.
