FC Barcelona has exploded, showing its absolute disagreement with the criteria set by the Spanish Football League (LFP) and the RFEF regarding the dates and times of the first team's matches.
FC Barcelona has issued this Saturday, April 19, 2025, an official statement expressing its deep discomfort and disagreement with the criteria used by LaLiga and the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) for determining the schedules of the matches of its first team.
The Catalan club has announced that it will file a formal complaint to the football regulatory bodies to try to prevent situations from repeating that, according to them, harm the players, whom they describe as "the great protagonists of the world of football. This is the statement issued by Barça:
Official statement from FC Barcelona against LaLiga schedules
We believe, as our coach expressed on Friday, whom we fully support and with whom we fully agree, that the regulatory bodies of Spanish football should be more considerate of teams like ours, which participate in the three competitions in the final stretch of the season. This problem is not new, and without diminishing the difficulty of organizing a calendar with so many matches, FC Barcelona will continue to defend its interests before the national and international organizing bodies so that the sports calendar makes more sense. Therefore, FC Barcelona will file a formal complaint with the football regulatory bodies with the aim of avoiding situations that may harm the true stars of football: the players.
The reasons for Barça's complaint:
The statement comes after the public criticism from coach Hansi Flick, who lamented the lack of rest between LaLiga and Champions League matches, negatively comparing the situation with that of other European leagues such as the Premier League or the Bundesliga, where teams competing in several competitions are better protected.
Barça denounces that the competent bodies of Spanish football are not careful enough with teams that, like theirs, face the final stretch of the season playing all official competitions (League, Copa del Rey and Champions League).
The club recalls that this complaint is not new, since throughout the season they have repeatedly expressed their disagreement with the way calendars and schedules are structured, considering that the overload of matches and the little rest for the players are not taken into account.
We will maintain special monitoring of any news or developments on this issue. If LaLiga or the RFEF respond to the statement, we will add the information.
