FC Barcelona Leads the Standings for the 2029 Club World Cup: Discover How!
FC Barcelona positions itself as the leader in the race for the 2029 Club World Cup
The FIFA Club World Cup 2025, which will take place from June 15 to July 13 in the United States, will not feature FC Barcelona, but that is behind for the Catalan team this season, which enjoys a great present in sports, remaining alive in several competitions and with serious aspirations to be crowned champion of them.
In this sense, with an eye on the next edition of the innovative world tournament organized by FIFA, FC Barcelona is already starting to take important steps to inscribe its name in the tournament that will take place in 2029. In fact, it currently leads the qualification route for this competition, accumulating 34 points, tied with Inter Milan only in this regard, while the next closest club is Arsenal with 32 points.
The poor performance in the Champions League during the 2020-21, 2021-22, and 2023-24 seasons ended up yielding the possible spot for the culés, whose results determined the two Spanish tickets. It is worth remembering that, unlike those from the City of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atlético de Madrid will indeed be part of the event that will determine the world champion at the club level.
Barcelona is Positioned as Leader in the Qualification for the 2029 Club World Cup
FC Barcelona, thanks to its performance in this edition of the Champions League, is now positioned as the leader with 34 points in the qualification for the 2029 Club World Cup, thanks to the great records presented by the Catalan team in the group stage of the 2024-25 Champions League, where it achieved 19 points. With this, it finished second in the standings, just behind Liverpool, a team that reached 21 points.
In the privileged position that Barcelona currently holds, its direct passage to the round of 16 also played a role, avoiding the 'playoffs'. This added three more points to the culé club, just like Atlético de Madrid, which finished in fifth place in the group stage.
On the other hand, Real Madrid did not receive any additional points, as it finished in 11th place. Therefore, it had to compete in the 'playoffs' against Manchester City, a team it eliminated, but this phase does not count for accumulating points.
How are points defined from the round of 16 onwards?
The direct passage to the round of 16 grants three additional points, but the format allows for generosity, as it will be the same in each subsequent round. Additionally, it should be noted that, starting from the round of 16, for each victory the winning team will earn three more units, while for a draw only one.
The teams that conquer the Champions League in 2024-25, 2025-26, 2026-2027, and 2027-28 will secure their participation, although the limitation of two spots per country will remain, except if there are three or four different European winners. So far, Barça leads Real Madrid and Atlético de Madrid by seven points.
