David Villa also highlighted the impact of Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsí on the FC Barcelona first team
One of the most authoritative voices to talk about FC Barcelona is, without a doubt, the 'Guaje' David Villa. And how could it not be? The Asturian striker had a remarkable period at the Azulgrana club for three seasons, in which he accumulated 48 goals in 120 matches, establishing himself as one of the great references of Barcelona in the modern era.
Now retired from the field, the world champion with the Spanish national team in 2010 was recently seen in Doha, enjoying the Easter holidays with his family. A trip that he also took advantage of to attend the Qatar Premier Padel, a championship of a sport that, according to what he has confessed, is starting to fascinate him and that he wants to start practicing regularly.
David Villa, delighted with Barcelona's present
From Doha, beyond paddle tennis, the 'Guaje' showed that he is still closely linked to the current international football scene, especially that of Barcelona. Villa did not hide his enthusiasm for the great moment the Azulgrana team is experiencing: "Very happy with how things are going. Not only for the results, but for the game and everything they are expressing in each competition. As a Barça fan, there is no other option than to enjoy this season," he revealed.
Likewise, the former footballer highlighted Barça's real option of conquering the treble this season. David believes that both the team and its fans have reasons to dream. "Of course. They have shown it. The most difficult part remains, the final stretch, but watching them play, anyone is optimistic," he added.
The 'Guaje' highlighted the impact of Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsí
The former player of Valencia CF and Atlético de Madrid also took the opportunity to reflect on the emergence of young talents such as Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsí, who have made the leap to the elite of football with impressive maturity. "It's not normal. It happens every so often. But in Spain, things are being worked on better and better from a very early age. These guys are prepared much earlier than before," he warned.
In turn, Villa insisted that it is not only a matter of formative work, but also of a generation with a very special talent: "They are special talents. Back in the day, without so much preparation, Raúl came out very young, many other players came out young and I repeat, in Spain they work very well, but obviously we are talking about guys with a very special ability to play, otherwise they could not be playing at these ages at this level".
The former striker analyzed the Champions League semi-finalists and Real Madrid's fall
Leaving aside the strictly Barça news, David Villa also gave his opinion on the semi-finalists of the UEFA Champions League. The 'Guaje' made it clear that anyone who is still in the competition has merits to be considered a favorite. "Those who are left there are already favorites. If they have reached there and have eliminated so many rivals, it is because they have potential. It is very complicated to reach a Champions League semi-final," he emphasized.
In addition, he valued Real Madrid's elimination at the hands of Arsenal in the quarter-finals, in a series that ended with a 5-1 aggregate score for the 'gunners'. Villa pointed out what, in his opinion, was the breaking point for the white team. "I think the key match was the first leg. Yesterday Madrid had it very complicated. Arsenal was a great rival, they had an important advantage from the first leg. I think they played a great match and left Madrid without being able to try that comeback," he said.
