After the match between FC Barcelona and Valencia CF, Frenkie de Jong made some statements about his future that, more than ever, suggest the option of him remaining at the club
The situation of Frenkie de Jong at FC Barcelona is gradually beginning to clarify. The Dutch midfielder, a top-level talent when fully fit, after returning from a right ankle injury in October and delivering several rather inconsistent sporting performances, seemed destined for ostracism, especially considering players like Dani Olmo, Pedri González, Gavi, and Marc Casadó are performing at a superlative level.
However, despite being practically relegated to the 'B Unit' of FC Barcelona, the former Ajax player has been demonstrating performances suggesting that he is regaining his best form on the field. This was evident in the match against Valencia CF (7-1), the latest commitment of the Blaugrana team, where Frenkie de Jong made the most of the opportunity provided by Hansi Flick.
Frenkie had a sublime match against Valencia CF
The Arkel native had an exceptional day: he started as captain in the lineup with a double pivot. He was responsible for opening the scoring with a truly 'crack' goal. Beyond that, he showed a remarkable performance on the field, being a true 'all-rounder,' significantly involved in the creation of play and displaying an interesting physical deployment, even engaging intensely in more than one defensive challenge.
His performance against the 'che' team was so outstanding that when he was substituted in the 78th minute by Pablo Torre, he received a great ovation from the Blaugrana fans present at Montjuïc, a gesture not seen this season and suggesting a beginning of reconciliation of the Barcelona supporters with a Frenkie de Jong who has been heavily criticized for his sporting instability due to physical setbacks that, according to the Dutchman, seem to be a thing of the past.
"I have been feeling good since after the Christmas break. I am at 100% and have to show that I have to play. I feel very good after scoring and especially for the victory"

De Jong, enigmatic about his future
Could this reconciliation of Frenkie de Jong with the fans and his current improvement in terms of play lead to a renewal with FC Barcelona? It should be noted that his contract expires on June 30, 2026 and, for now, the issue seems to be on hold.
Despite rumors hinting at a possible departure, the Dutchman apparently does not rule out continuing with the Blaugrana team: "I feel very good at Barcelona. I am focused on the present, and there will be time for everything afterwards", statements disseminated through Fabrizio Romano.
Although he does not clearly express his will, his happiness at being at FC Barcelona could indicate his future desires. Coupled with his gradual recovery of prominence, this could change the landscape of his situation at the club.
