FC Barcelona had a 'comfortable' night at the King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah. Aside from a couple of scares in the final minutes and with the victory practically secured, the Blaugranas achieved their place in the final of the Supercopa de España after defeating Athletic Club (0-2) in a match that had a great protagonist.
Gavi was once again a starter in a tournament that suits him quite well and played a key role in the victory of the team led by Hansi Flick. The Andalusian was the one who opened the scoring in the 16th minute, when, after a spectacular collective play, the midfielder sent the ball into the net of Unai Simón, which was his first goal of the season.
A special dedication
The youth player, who had not scored since his goal against Royal Antwerp in September 2023 in the Champions League, celebrated his goal against the Athletic side with rage and relief, dedicating this goal to Dani Olmo by repeating the gesture that the Egarense makes with every goal, tapping his wrist with his finger.
"I have done several celebrations, but one of them was for Olmo, who is going to reach the final. He always does it, and that’s why I did it. Both Dani and Pau Víctor contribute a lot to us, and we are happy for them," commented Gavi after the match. Now, the Blaugrana '6' aims to repeat his brilliant performance next Sunday in the final of the competition and help Barça achieve the first title of the 'Flick era'.
