The left-back convinced Hansi Flick on the American pre-season tour and is taking advantage of the opportunities the coach gives him

Calendar of FC Barcelona

Adapting to elite football is not easy, much less in a club with the greatness that Barça possesses. However, with hard work everything can be achieved. That is the philosophy that Gerard Martín has been applying since he signed for the Blaugrana reserve team last season. After becoming an undisputed player for Rafa Márquez and having received a call from Xavi for a friendly, he is now getting opportunities under Hansi Flick in the first team.

The German coach called up the Barcelona player for the tour of the United States and, after comparing him with Álex Valle, ended up opting for the ex-Cornellà player. In the same way, from the first day he counted on him, he never stopped doing so. He has been in the senior squad dynamics all season, although with a reserve team card. He has debuted in all the competitions that Barça has participated in so far and is improving with each participation he accumulates.

Gerard Martín has now spent 654 minutes on the pitch in the Blaugrana jersey, spread across 15 matches. He has also used them to carry out solid defensive actions and project himself into attack, managing to assist his teammates on 2 occasions. His good work, already last season, has caused the Board of Directors to decide to renew his contract, which ends in 2025, until 2028.

It seems difficult for him to get the starting position at left back, since Alejandro Balde is a footballer with ideal conditions for the position. However, at 22 years old and with a lot of work on his legs, the defender is rubbing shoulders with the elite of football and does not look like he is going to give up.
