Marc Casadó made his debut this Tuesday with the Spanish U-21 in the rout against Malta (6-0). The FC Barcelona midfielder confirmed his good moment with an outstanding performance

Calendar of FC Barcelona

FC Barcelona has found in Marc Casadó a fundamental piece for Hansi Flick's scheme this season. On Tuesday, the one from Sant Pere de Vilamajor officially debuted as a Spanish international with the U-21 team led by Santi Denia, in the rout against Malta (6-0). The culé midfielder played 79 minutes, with hardly any surprises in the contention alongside Javi Guerra, showing the solvency that has characterized him at the start of 2024/25 with Barça.

In that sense, the '17' has managed to earn a position based on work and confidence, which he began to build last season, when he managed to gain a place in Xavi Hernández's squad. With the arrival of Flick, the change in scheme (going from 4-3-3 to 4-2-3-1 opens up one more position in the midfield) has allowed the 21-year-old player to deploy his physical and technical abilities , forming a very effective duo with both Marc Bernal and Pedri.

Barça hopes that Marc Casadó will guide its midfield in the future

Given the numerous losses due to injury in the culé squad, Casadó has given freshness to the Barça midfield, as a backup wheel to maintain the balance of a team that advances lines and presses high in the rival field during the 90 minutes. In principle, the return of Frenkie de Jong could send him to the bench if the Dutchman quickly recovers his best version. However, the youth squad will continue to wait for his opportunities, ready to help at any time.

For Barça, Marc's future was understood as a priority at the end of last season, which is why the board did not want to delay his renewal. The midfielder signed until 2028, with a termination clause of around 500 million euros. As with Marc Bernal, Barça secures two of its possible pillars in the midfield in the medium and long term, in addition to guaranteeing due replacement for a position that is always key to the functioning of a team that aspires, year after year, to try to win it all.
