The FC Barcelona squad will have a total of four consecutive days off starting on Wednesday, September 4. Hansi Flick has preferred to give a break to the players who remained in Barcelona during the international break, understanding the complexity of the culé calendar during the next weeks and the small group available during the FIFA date.
In this sense, the German coach has opted for a 'mini vacation' that allows the team to return to work with renewed energy next Monday 9. In total, Barça has 9 players called up by their national teams for the double international matchday. With Fermín López injured, Pablo Torre also joined the Spanish U-21s, leaving only 10 players available during Tuesday's session.
That is why Flick, an 'enemy' of long breaks, preferred to give the rest of the team a rest this week. Since the start of pre-season on July 10, the manager had not given the team more than a couple of consecutive days off, maintaining a strict physical work schedule led by coach Julio Tous. However, the load of matches and the injuries of Marc Bernal and Fermín himself make clear the need to rest when circumstances allow.
7 games in 3 weeks: The tough schedule that Barça has ahead of it
Barça will return to action after the break with a difficult match on Sunday 15 September at Montilivi against Girona. Four days later it is time for their Champions League debut, also away against Monaco. The league schedule continues on Sunday 22 at El Madrigal, against Villarreal, while matchday 7 will be played midweek, on Wednesday 25 against Getafe on the return to Montjuïc.
The following weekend it is time to visit Osasuna, just before the second Champions League match, on Tuesday 1 October against Young Boys. On Sunday 6 it is time to visit Alavés. In total, Barça will face 7 matches in the next 3 weeks, 5 of them away. Considering the workload that the internationals will carry with each break, the schedule looks very complicated for the culés between now and the end of the year, since in October and November there will also be FIFA dates.
