Hansi Flick reacts after Barça's victory: his anger over Dani Olmo's injury and the schedule.
The victory of FC Barcelona against Osasuna (3-0), although crucial for the team in their title aspirations for LaLiga, left a bittersweet taste in the mouth of all Barcelona fans. This is because Dani Olmo was forced to leave the field at Montjuïc due to a muscle injury. A situation that did not please Hansi Flick, who expressed his anger in the post-match press conference.
"I am very proud of my players. The situation was not easy at all, it was not the best date to play but now we have three more points. We paid for playing today with Olmo's injury. I leave with a bitter taste. We do not know how long he will be out, but given the current schedule, two weeks would be a long time, it is not good at all," the coach began.
"You can make a lot of money, but for them it is tough, we should take a break for the sake of the players"
The German continued his rant against the schedule, stating that "I think we need to listen to the players and coaches. This summer the Club World Cup will be played and it will be very tough. I don't think it's a good thing. You can make a lot of money, but for them it is tough, we should take a break for the sake of the players".
"Fans want us to give 100% and want to see a spectacle. When things like this happen, we do not reach the level we could reach. It's not just my opinion", added the German, visibly dissatisfied with the current management of football governing bodies.
Hansi Flick praises his players
Aside from his displeasure with the tight schedule and its repercussions, Flick expressed satisfaction with a victory that allows the team to regain sole leadership in LaLiga. "We are doing very well. Three points ahead, with a very high goal difference... but there are still 10 matches to play. We are in a great moment", pointed out the German.
One of the standout names of the match was Gavi, who ended up being the team captain and left an emotional image when Pedri handed him the armband. "For Gavi, the armband means a lot, he had a great game today. I am very proud of him, he has not had it easy, he played after his injury, but now he was more on the bench. Even so, he is always very focused on what he has to do," explained the coach.
Finally, regarding the performance of the less frequent players like Pablo Torre, Fermín, or Pau Víctor, the German stated that "You can see that they enjoy playing. It is important for them, they give their all in training. It is very important that players with fewer minutes played today and they did very well".
"For example, Ferran started as a starter, I spoke with him in the morning and during the match we saw everything we talked about. Everyone is very engaged.", concluded Flick, highlighting the figure of Ferran Torres, who was the one to open the scoring with his 14th goal of the season, allowing him to reach his best record as a professional.
