Flick comments on the appeal and hints at changes in the lineup for the match against Girona.
The FC Barcelona will seek to maintain its sole lead in LaLiga EA Sports 24/25 this Sunday against Girona in Montjuïc. In the lead-up to the match, Hansi Flick spoke to the media at a press conference, and in addition to evaluating the game against Míchel's team, he broke his silence about the appeal of the match against Osasuna for the alleged improper alignment of Iñigo Martínez.
"All I can say is that we won three points. The rest is not in our hands, we won well", the German began regarding the controversial complaint from the red-and-white club. However, the coach did not point fingers at the Navarrese, stating that "all clubs are going through the same thing. That's how it is, and the calendar is what it is, and we have to play".
"I am not worried about this situation. We analyze the previous match and the upcoming match, and that's it. The rest is not in my hands"
"We are proud of the match against Osasuna and we won it. I can't say anything more because it's not in my hands", he added, to conclude the topic by assuring that "I am not worried about this situation. We analyze the previous match and the upcoming match, and that's it. The rest is not in my hands. This situation has happened, and I can't do anything. If something changes, Deco and the club will work on it".
With an eye on the match on March 30, Flick stated that "we are looking forward to the game. The last ten matches of LaLiga are very important, and we have to fight for them". He also confirmed that "I believe all players can play. We will decide tomorrow, perhaps one or two players will rest. Everyone is available; it's an optimal situation".
Flick's 1x1: Gavi, Ansu Fati, Lamine Yamal, Fermín, Ferran...
The German also spoke about specific players from Barça. Regarding Gavi and his fit in the system, the coach commented that "his best position is 6 or 8, but he can play in various positions. Against Osasuna, he played to press the opponent well; we will see what we do tomorrow. I am very happy with his performance as a 6. He held the ball very well in the second half, did a great job".
Regarding the 'competition' between Lewandowski and Ferran Torres in the center of the attack, the German stated that "the situation we had against Osasuna was also thinking about the upcoming matches. I spoke with Ferran and Lewy. Lewy only wants collective success; he doesn't think about the Pichichi. He is seeing what the team needs. This is very good, and everything went well against Osasuna".
"I always tell the players, if they feel something, they should talk to me"
Additionally, when asked about the minute load of Lamine Yamal, Flick assured that "Lamine is very smart and knows how to pace himself in matches. I spoke with him this morning, asked how he feels, and he is very positive. I always tell the players, if they feel something, they should talk to me, we chat, and that's it. All players understand the responsibility for their own bodies; if there is something strange. This is how we want to proceed. They need to take responsibility".
The coach praised Fermín López, stating that "his reaction after Lewandowski's goal says it all about him. He is a great fighter, a great guy. When he sometimes doesn't play well, he is a bit sad, but we want him like this, smiling and giving his all for the team. Now he can show it in every match. I am happy that he is here; it's fantastic".
Regarding Ansu Fati's situation and the possibility of seeing minutes against Girona, Flick remained cool, commenting that "we will see if it's possible. We need him. What I have to say is that it is a situation that is not easy for him, but Pau Víctor and Pablo Torre have also trained fantastically. This is what I want from the players, to give 100% and show that they deserve to play".
The memory of doctor Miñarro and words about Madrid
Flick recalled the figure of doctor Miñarro when asked about the possibility of the entire squad being recovered for the end of the season. "You never know. It will be a great challenge until the end of the season. We are ready for it and will fight until the end of the season. On Thursday, we won again for Carles, as it was his birthday. It was very important for the team", he assured.
Regarding the importance of home advantage in the final stretch of LaLiga, the coach stated that "our goal is to win all home matches, but we also have to play away. There are 10 matches left, and it is important to win match after match. The rest of the season will shorten, and it will be more complicated for the other teams".
About his present at Barça and the difference with his predecessors, who expressed that they suffered in their work, the German stated that "from the beginning, I am very happy to be here and work with these players. Everyone is enjoying playing football. I continue on my path of how we want to improve".
"We have improved a lot in possession and control. It helped us a lot against Osasuna. We made fewer mistakes than in previous weeks. I am happy, but we can do things better. Every day we need to take a step to improve. For now, I am enjoying being the coach of Barça", he added, concluding his appearance by clarifying his words about Real Madrid, stating that it was not an attack on the white club or Ancelotti.
"I respect Real Madrid, also Carlo Ancelotti, one of the best coaches in the world and a good person. I will not say anything bad about him and his club, but we are Barça, and it is different. La Masia, the connections are fantastic. It feels like a family, all together. There are many staff members that we have included, and it is a challenge for the coach to get everyone on the same page. I am happy here", he concluded.
