FC Barcelona is not the first time that it has given a 'little hand' to Real Madrid. Now, how did it go in the last season in which you managed to achieve a result of this type? We tell you at FCBN

Calendar of FC Barcelona

All is jubilation in the City of Barcelona, and why wouldn't it be? After a few days of high tension surrounding the case of the registration of Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor, the FC Barcelona managed to shake off that tension by handing a historic thrashing to its favorite rival, Real Madrid. A historic 2-5 victory at the King Abdullah Sports City that not only demonstrated Culé supremacy in a competition like the Spanish Super Cup but also dispelled any doubts about whether Hansi Flick's team is experiencing a sublime sporting moment.

Now, not only does FC Barcelona have a good taste in its mouth from the vindicating victory that solidifies feelings, but it can also look optimistically at how history supports that such a resounding victory over its staunch rival can be a synonym of success for the Culés. At least, that's what the statistics support.

Indeed, the last time FC Barcelona handed a 'manita' to Real Madrid resulted in a rather prosperous season in terms of titles. That thrashing occurred in the 2018-19 season, on matchday 10 of LaLiga.

In that encounter, led by Ernesto 'Txingurri' Valverde, they triumphed in the league Clásico with a 5-1 scoreline, where Luis Suárez was the standout performer, scoring an impeccable hat-trick (30', 75', and 83'), along with goals from Philippe Coutinho (11') and Arturo Vidal (87'). The only response from Real Madrid was a solitary goal from Marcelo in the 50th minute.

How did FC Barcelona fare in the 2018-19 season?

The Catalan side ended up as champions of LaLiga, leading the league with 87 points after winning 26 matches, drawing nine, and losing only three. Additionally, they were crowned champions of the 2018 Spanish Super Cup, defeating Sevilla 2-1 at the Ibn Battouta Stadium in Tangier, Morocco.

However, in the other two competitions they participated in, the Copa del Rey and the Champions League, they did not achieve success, although they came close. In the Copa del Rey, they reached the final but lost to Valencia CF 1-2.

In the UEFA Champions League, they were a bit further away, not making it past the semifinals and suffering a heavy defeat against Liverpool. Despite securing a significant 3-0 advantage at home in the first leg, they failed to finish the job at Anfield, losing 0-4, in what has become one of the most painful episodes in Barcelona's history.
