Barcelona has made Marc Bernal's injury official, a loss that involves a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and an injury associated with the external meniscus. Due to the harshness of the matter, the time of absence will be long. How long exactly? We tell you at FCBN
Finally, FC Barcelona has confirmed the unfortunate diagnosis of the 17-year-old midfielder, Marc Bernal. During Tuesday's match between the Blaugrana and Rayo Vallecano, the Berga native was knocked out in the 87th minute. He tried to snatch the ball from Isi Palazón, resulting in an unfortunate incident. A wrong move with his left leg, combined with a completely involuntary blow and the momentum of the play caused by Palazón, resulted in one of the most feared injuries in the world of football: a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament of the left knee and an associated injury to the external meniscus.

The '28' midfielder, who was starting to settle in the first team and was a starter in Hansi Flick's scheme as one of the key elements of the double pivot, has suffered this setback, the recovery time of which is usually prolonged. A clear example is the case of Pablo Gavi, who suffered a similar injury to his right leg on November 19. Despite nine months having passed since his recovery and showing good sensations in training, his return is expected by late October or early November.
How long will FC Barcelona miss Marc Bernal?
Taking into account the experience of other players with similar injuries, Marc Bernal is likely to be out of competition for between nine and eleven months. This means that, at best, he could return between May and July 2025, missing almost the entire 2024/25 season and returning to the club towards the end of that campaign, with the possibility of not being able to play definitively for the rest of the season.
According to this forecast, the midfielder will miss the remaining 35 matches of LaLiga EA Sports 24/25, as the Spanish domestic tournament concludes on May 25, 2025. Additionally, due to his time off, he will miss the Spanish Super Cup (January 8-12, 2025), the Copa del Rey (October 9, 2024 to April 26, 2025), and the Champions League (September 17, 2024 to May 31, 2025). With this in mind, it is understandable that Marc Bernal is expected to return for the 2025/26 preseason, fully recovered and ready to face the 2025/26 period in top condition.
