Iñigo Martínez returns to training and aims for the match against Dortmund
Good news for FC Barcelona. The Blaugrana team may recover one of its most important assets to strengthen its defensive line ahead of the match against Borussia Dortmund, corresponding to the first leg of the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League 2024-25: Iñigo Martínez.
The Basque defender did not participate in the last match of FC Barcelona, on matchday 30 of LaLiga EA Sports, against Real Betis (1-1), due to what the Catalan team classified as "a minor muscle injury in the glute of the left leg". Initially, it was unclear whether this setback would keep him out of action only for that match or for a longer period.
Iñigo Martínez, Ready for the Match Against Borussia Dortmund
Fortunately, Iñigo Martínez seems to be fully recovered. The Ondarroa native participated without issues in the training session this Monday at the Joan Gamper Sports City, which has generated optimism about his presence in the Barcelona squad for the important match against Borussia Dortmund.

Although his presence as a starter will depend on how he feels in the last training session before the match (Tuesday), all indications suggest that Iñigo Martínez could be part of the starting eleven. Or, at least, be available to come off the bench.
Alternatives in FC Barcelona's Defense
While the '5' seems to be in good physical condition, FC Barcelona has several options in its defensive line if the former Athletic Club player does not receive medical clearance in time. In the last match against Real Betis, coach Hansi Flick opted for the central defensive pairing of Pau Cubarsí and Ronald Araujo. However, Barça also has other alternatives, such as Eric García, who although primarily plays as a pivot, can also perform as a center-back, and the recently recovered Andreas Christensen.
