Laporta and Mendes, face to face in Lisbon to advance the renewal of Lamine Yamal

The board of FC Barcelona, led by Joan Laporta, joined the blue and claret expedition that traveled to Lisbon this Tuesday at noon to accompany the team in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 next Wednesday against Benfica. The team's visit to Portugal has allowed the president and Deco, the club's sporting director, to schedule a meeting with Jorge Mendes to discuss the renewal of Lamine Yamal.

According to 'Mundo Deportivo', the famous agent and the representatives of the blue and claret entity will use the meeting to facilitate the extension of the contract of the blue and claret star, whose current link expires in 2026, and the intention is to extend it until 2030 with a salary commensurate with his star status. The negotiations are advanced and the player's signature is practically a fact, although there are still certain details to be specified, which will be discussed in the scheduled 'meeting' in the coming days between both parties.

In addition to the meeting that will take place on Lisbon soil, Mendes also plans to travel to the Catalan capital later to finalize the definitive agreement. The conversations among all involved have flowed without major issues, and everything indicates that the deal that will 'secure' Lamine's future when he turns 18 on July 13 will be finalized in the coming weeks.

Lamine's salary, the key to the operation

The Barça and the Portuguese agent reached an agreement when Yamal, at 16 years old, signed his contract until 2026. According to this, the player would extend his stay at the club until 2030 with a salary increase. However, in light of the tremendous progress of the forward, both parties are clear that this initially agreed salary must be reviewed upwards due to the star status of the youth player in Hansi Flick's team.

Currently, Lamine Yamal is receiving a minimal amount as a base salary for a player of the highest category in FC Barcelona. At the same time, it has been noted that the '19'  earns greater benefits from the 'bonuses' he receives. Therefore, it is expected that the Catalans will adjust the '19's' salary in relation to his status both on a sporting and media level, making him the highest paid in the squad.

Beyond this, tranquility reigns at the Spotify Camp Nou regarding the continuity of the star from Mataró. The player himself recently admitted that "no one doubts how I am as a fan, how much I love this club. Since I debuted, I have said it and I believe it will be resolved in the end. If both parties want something to happen, it will happen," so everything points to the fact that, starting July 14, the winger's contract will automatically extend for four more years.
