Enric Masip has broken the protocol of the trip to Valencia. Although no director or executive of FC Barcelona was expected to make a statement on the official trip for the first LaLiga match, the advisor to president Joan Laporta answered a couple of questions from the press on his arrival in the Spanish city.
The member of the presidential cabinet and trusted man of the president was asked if there are possibilities of signing Nico Williams. Masip replied that "this is handled by the sporting management", making it clear that he has no intention of continuing to talk about the most talked about topic in Barcelona this summer. This simple statement seems to be the only one we will have on this case during the first match of the Blaugrana team in the domestic competition. Laporta, Deco and other members of the board have traveled to Valencia, but no further statements are expected.
Nico Williams made his debut in LaLiga
Right now, everything continues to indicate that Nico will stay at Athletic Bilbao this season. The player was not part of Ernesto Valverde's starting eleven in the debut and 1-1 draw against Getafe on Thursday, August 15, but he did play several minutes and was applauded by his fans at San Mamés. The player from Pamplona will have the honour of wearing the number '10' this season and next week he will travel with his team to Barcelona, where they will face Barcelona on August 24.
Therefore, the board is still firmly searching the market for a left winger, where there are interesting players available such as Jadon Sancho, Federico Chiesa or Kingsley Coman. The latter could leave Bayern Munich on loan and Hansi Flick knows him very well, so he would be a low-cost option that could provide a lot of quality. We will soon know who will arrive or if the Blaugrana team will choose to keep the squad as it is.
