The Latest Progress on the Camp Nou Works: The Third Tier Underway

2025 has begun with the works at Spotify Camp Nou progressing at a good pace. Although the project is still far from showing a face that generates optimism about the return to the stadium this season, the structure denotes the imposing nature of a project that already has the foundations of the third tier. In theory, this phase should be completed by the end of May, as a new delay would postpone the installation of the roof until the summer of 2026.

In this sense, the structure of the third tier is key for installing the so-called 'Big Lift', the internal cabling of the future roof. This phase is scheduled to begin in June and will extend throughout the summer, until mid-September. Barça will request LaLiga to play the first three matches of the 2025/26 season as visitors to give an extra month to the work on the roof, just as Real Madrid did in 2021 and 2022.

The dates for the return to Camp Nou are becoming increasingly uncertain

Once the roof is installed, the third tier will be completed during the first months of 2026. With this, it is almost certain that the team will not be able to play the next edition of the Joan Gamper Trophy at Camp Nou. The Johan Cruyff Stadium, host of the 2021 edition, is pointed out as the most suitable venue for the match with which the club usually kicks off each season, presenting the squad and coaching staff to the fans.

Similarly, the chances of returning to Les Corts this season remain slim, as the interiors of the dressing rooms, boxes, and press area still have a lot of work ahead. The club, however, does not close the door on playing the final stretch of the 2024/25 season at Camp Nou, although this factor will condition the progress of the project for the summer. With the field being prepared, there will be few advancements that can be concretized between April and May, which could affect the completion of the project in 2026.
