Marc Casadó could have left Barça last summer. However, the player revealed that the arrival of Hansi Flick changed his future at the club
Marc Casadó is the great revelation of FC Barcelona this season. The midfielder, who is just going through his first year in the first team, has established himself as one of Hansi Flick's 'untouchables' in the midfield, putting an end to a debate that had been open since Sergio Busquets' departure.
However, the future of the 21-year-old player at the blue and garnet entity could have been very different if it weren't for the German coach, as he himself revealed in the first chapter of 'Inside Barça', from 'Barça One'.
"The club wanted me to stay, but it is true that the idea was to look for minutes outside the Barça"
"With the arrival of Hansi Flick, they told me that he had been analyzing videos of the youth team and Barça Atlètic and that he saw me as an important piece within the team. In the end, I renewed with the idea of being able to stay in the first team," highlighted the player from Sant Pere de Vilamajor.
His beginnings in the first team
Casadó recalled how the preseason started and the message conveyed by Flick in the first training sessions of the squad. "I remember what he used to tell us at the start of each training. He would tell us that if we gave 100%, we would have our reward. And that’s how it was," the footballer stated.
"We had a very good season, both physically and tactically. We left everything on the field, which was what he asked of us, and I remember talking to him and him asking me for the maximum, because the rest of the things would come by themselves," he continued.
Finally, he emphasized the importance of the tour in the United States in his new role in the team. "I knew that these matches could be life or death, and I went onto the field knowing that if I performed well, I could stay at the club where I had always dreamed of playing. I faced it with calmness and a lot of eagerness," he expressed.
"I came out quite strengthened from the matches in the United States. I think I was the player who came out the most strengthened, as I believe I played the most minutes. There were moments when the coach wanted to substitute me to manage the loads, but I didn’t want to," he concluded.
