FC Barcelona has officially confirmed the surgery of Marc Bernal, who had to undergo a surgical procedure due to a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and an associated injury to the outer meniscus, suffered in the match against Rayo Vallecano. This game was part of Matchday 3 of LaLiga EA Sports 2024/25.

The Barcelona team has released a statement through its social media channels, informing that the surgery was successfully performed by Dr. Joan Carles Monllau, under the supervision of the Club's Medical Services. It has also been specified that the estimated recovery time for this injury will be 12 months.

Therefore, it is evident that unfortunately the talented midfielder will not be available for the rest of the 2024/25 season. Adhering to the 12-month recovery prognosis, he will also miss the 2025/26 pre-season, rejoining the Catalan side once the next season begins.

Marc Bernal's absence, a particularly tough blow for the Barça setup

This absence is especially regrettable for the team, not only due to the severity of the injury affecting such a young player (17 years old) who was just starting his professional career, having played only three official matches (244 minutes), but also because they lose a key player who fulfilled the need for a dynamic midfielder in Hansi Flick's squad. Now, the team from Barcelona will have to find ways to cover this position with the available players, such as Marc Casadó or Eric García, while awaiting the recovery of players like Pablo Gavi, Frenkie de Jong, or Andreas Christensen, who can support Pedri González in the double pivot, a role that is becoming increasingly established.
