The worst-case scenario has been confirmed regarding the injury of Marc-André ter Stegen,  who suffered a serious knee injury in the match last Sunday between FC Barcelona and Villarreal CF (1-5) at the Estadio de La Cerámica. From the outset, the setback seemed severe, and the club, after conducting the necessary examinations on Monday morning, announced through its social media that the player has suffered a complete rupture of the patellar tendon.

According to the statement issued by the Catalan team, Ter Stegen will undergo surgery this same Monday, September 23. Currently, the club has not provided an exact estimate of the recovery time, but it is speculated that 'MATS' could miss between seven and eight months of competition, which would mean bidding farewell to the remainder of the 2024/25 season.
